With Spring in the air and home improvement on our minds, we have been going crazy with curb appeal updates to the exterior of our house. We have some pretty big projects coming up on both the interior and exterior of our home, (including painting the inside of our house ourselves), but we are starting with the simpler things to knock them out of the way quickly. This is what our exterior started as. It's outdated and very 70's house, but I'm looking forward to making some major visual changes in the upcoming weeks.
First up on our curb appeal makeover, is changing the (ugly) brick on the front of the house and updating the door! I am not a fan of "natural wood" and am so excited I finally convinced Paul to paint the exterior and update the brick! In addition to painting the brick, we hope to do something with the siding. Either painting it (ideal) or powerwashing it back to its original white (less ideal). I'm also hoping to add black glossy shutters and re-paint the upper shutters.
The first DIY updates:
While we get estimates on the painting projects, I am painting a few things myself. Strangely, our windows with white trim were then outlined by black trim. My first easy fix was painting the black trim white. It was quick, instant update to the exterior and actually brightened the front right up!
Adding flowers also is a relatively cheap, easy, fun update to add some curb appeal while we continue to work on the home improvements. Ultimately, we hope to do some minor landscaping, add flowery window boxes, and brighten everything up, but since I'm all about instant gratification right now, the potted flowers work well to add some spring cheer. I painted multiple clay pots white using exterior paint and roller brushes. I then added pink hydrangeas and arranged them on our stoop (which also needs updating!) Ideas?
I'm hoping to paint the exterior door with a bright accent color to complement the future colors of our house. Bright cheery Red, Seafoam Green or Coral are on my mind right now. I've got the door primed and ready to go (as soon as we decide on a color)!
Stay tuned for updates on our house makeover and the (hopefully) beautiful resulting exterior! Any suggestions? Have you ever undertaken a project like this before?
